The Candy Maier Scholarship Fund for Women Writers supports participation in shared writing experiences. It provides scholarship assistance to women for workshops, classes, programs and retreats generally located in Western North Carolina.
Women living in Western North Carolina are eligible for awards to cover up to 50% of the cost of the program, up to $250. Funds permitting, we offer awards each month.

Why The Candy Fund Exists
After Candy Maier's unexpected death in November of 2005, writing friends established a fund in her honor to offer other women an opportunity to participate in the kind of shared writing experiences that she found fun and meaningful. These experiences brought out and fostered Candy's writing talent, but she died before many of her poignant, funny, true-to-life pieces could be published.
